Choose each place’s fingerprint and filter mobile Wi-Fi statistically
Version 5.13.0.0 beta makes Profiles → Places checkboxes mean included: the checked access points identify that place. Each place keeps its own custom set, which overrides automatic estimates. New place profiles start with no selected access points; confirming the current place preserves custom choices.
Automatic detection learns sustained access-point presence across repeated, contrasting Wi-Fi surroundings. It filters likely mobile or shared access points from automatically learned fingerprints, without treating a brief appearance or one router replacement as proof of movement. Profiles shows the supporting session evidence and presence-interval limit; Location options can turn the estimates off.
Use automatic evidence to reset a place’s custom choices. Activity Log’s grouping tab is named by Place. Windows network labels preserve literal prefixes and whitespace through recognition and saved mobile exclusions.
The User guide adds four illustrated fingerprint steps covering checked membership, independent places, statistical evidence and overrides. Location guidance, the Activity Log How-to topic, privacy information and the feedback form are aligned.
The updated Manjaro guest passed 67 focused location checks for this version. They cover sustained-session thresholds, unrelated-context evidence, changing crowds, short-lived appearances, restart behavior, settings persistence, preserved network names and per-place checked fingerprint choices.
The native Windows diagnostic build passed with no warnings or errors. The version’s Linux library registered successfully with the actual KDE desktop tray on updated Manjaro; visible icon verification remains separate. Bundled translation validation covered 100 catalogs with 1,660 entries each.
The same updated Manjaro guest passed 68 native Linux location and investigation interface checks, including checkbox activation through UI automation, independent place selections, retained rows, archive and restore, custom overrides, the exact by Place label, scoped reports and investigation navigation. Complete Windows GUI execution, wider Linux desktop-environment and window-manager coverage, physical movement, visible tray presence on every supported platform, and physical Wi-Fi/Bluetooth adapter combinations remain unfinished for this version.
Native ARM64 desktop and radio behavior remains unverified. Generated observations establish model and interface behavior, not physical-radio accuracy.
Inspect place fingerprints and exclude mobile Wi-Fi
Version 5.12.0.2 beta adds Profiles → Places: create saved places, edit names and notes, inspect their Wi-Fi access-point fingerprints, and archive or restore places while preserving recorded history. Choose Use as current place explicitly to record new observations there, or show a place’s history to inspect its evidence.
Automatic recognition compares access-point identities. Passing hotspots no longer dilute a current place supported by multiple familiar anchors. Mark mobile networks in the fingerprint list to exclude their access points from place decisions, including future observations with the same network name; scans and history remain available.
Activity Log adds By place to group program, tool, network and device events by their recorded place, including unassigned history. The investigation question selector accepts clicks on its labels. The User guide’s location and Profiles steps, the Activity Log How-to topic and the feedback form now cover the new controls and their outcomes.
The updated Manjaro guest passed 41 focused location checks, including mobile-network exclusions, fingerprint retention, place management, settings persistence and log grouping by recorded place. A separate native Linux interface suite passed 60 location and investigation checks using generated observations.
The focused interface suite exercised place editing and retained drafts, archive and restore, location-scoped views and reports, By place in Activity Log, investigation navigation, and light and dark layouts. Bundled translation validation covered 100 catalogs with 1,645 entries each.
These checks do not establish physical movement or radio behavior. Native Windows GUI execution, wider Linux desktop-environment and window-manager coverage, and physical Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapter combinations remain unfinished for this version.
Native ARM64 desktop and radio behavior remains unverified.
Version 5.11.0.0 beta adds named places throughout Hotspot Observer. Familiar Wi-Fi surroundings can recognize a saved place, while sustained unfamiliar surroundings prompt you to confirm or name a location. Select a place manually when needed. History, profiles, statistics, recommendations, connection reviews and exports keep their location context; separate visits do not become continuous observations of time spent elsewhere.
Current place assigns new observations and guides automatic Wi-Fi selection. History and analysis independently chooses the place you inspect. Older records remain unassigned; recognition does not use GPS or establish a geographic address.
Tools → Investigate Wi-Fi adds 16 guided investigations with measurements, comparisons, evidence limits and shortcuts to the appropriate app views.
Linux restores its window when its tray icon disappears and closes cleanly after losing tray registration. Package recommendations help provide desktop tray integration while preserving desktop preferences.
Windows and Linux receive matching 5.11.0.0 beta packages. Read the separate validation entry for the unfinished testing scope.
The coordinated Windows and Linux packages were built and signed for this release. Bundled translation validation covered 100 catalogs with 1,618 entries each. Location-model checks ran without failure on the updated Manjaro test guest; the wider regression run did not complete and encountered a speed-test latency timeout.
Fresh test-machine setup is unfinished. Native Windows GUI validation and the focused Linux location-interface execution have not completed for 5.11.0.0 beta.
Complete GUI coverage across desktop environments and window managers, physical Wi-Fi and Bluetooth measurements and all allowed adapter combinations remain unfinished. Earlier test reports apply only to the versions they name.
Native ARM64 desktop and radio testing remains unverified. Packaging an architecture does not establish its native runtime or hardware behavior.
Explore slow connections, repeated disconnections, channels, bands, weak areas and comparisons over time through 16 question-led How-to topics. Each follows the established guide format: preparation, illustrated steps to measure, compare and interpret, a result check and evidence limits. The questions have moved out of the User guide; open How-to to choose an investigation, or follow the link from the guide. The User guide’s location topic also follows its usual compact steps and illustration placement.
Version 5.10.8.0 beta removes an expensive Linux repaint operation and corrects graphics cleanup when closing windows. Existing views, rows and regional refresh behavior are preserved. Windows receives the matching release.
Version 5.10.7.0 beta corrects tab rendering after sleep while retaining existing views and rows. A physical Windows 11 laptop passed the sleep/wake check with all controls and text remaining visible. Activity Log also preserves its grouping, selected network and older-history reading position when returning to a tab. Native Windows checks passed, together with Linux desktop UI, export, refresh and notification checks on Ubuntu 22.04, Arch, EndeavourOS, Fedora and openSUSE Leap.
Version 5.10.5.3 beta updates retained-tab rendering while preserving existing lists and selections. Native Windows rendering checks passed for tab changes, resizing and themes. Physical testing confirmed that text can still disappear after sleep and currently returns only after restarting the app; investigation continues. The release also corrects Linux feedback initialization and app closing, and unavailable online news leaves the existing news readable.
